NEXT TIME AROUND

Next time around, I want to be
Able to fly like a bird, see the
World, listen to the rain as I
Fly high above the clouds and
Scream out aloud, "Free, Free!
So nice to be, "
Make no mistakes like before that
Made me crawl on my own dirty
Floor,
Next time around, I want to have
More fun and give my life a chance
To dance in mid-air, treating
Myself very fare,
Land on a tree limb, shake a few
Leaves and see them blow away in
The wind,
Then fly to another place to see
How other folks love to play,
Next time around, I want to be able
To fly like a bird to see other
Folk's land and watch how they plan,
Something I missed before because
I was a little too slow,
No use for car, train or plane,
Just flap my wings and take off
Unannounced, crossing borders
Without
Passport and other paper orders,
Next time around, I want to be as
Free as I can be and I won't care
If I never land again on my feet,
Not even for a small peep,
For this time I want to see the world
From top side as I glide into space &
Time, free from the problem of race,
Using my own mind,
Watching generations to generations
Trying
To cope with each other as sisters and
Brothers,
Next time around, I want to fly like a
Bird, see the world and never again
Will I be caught down here on the
Ground......

The  stories  were  written by elementary students that participated  in  playwright, author,  Larry Hunter's  lectures and workshops  at various sites and  classrooms.

THE BOY WHO LEARNED HIS LESSON
Once there lived a very selfish boy who didn't like to share,  Everybody gave him something but in return, they got nothing.  Sometimes on his     birthday he got a lot of presents, but on their birthday, he didn't bring anything but himself.  One day everybody got sick of giving him things.  So they made a plan.  Everybody had gotten cake and ice cream for a party.  The selfish boy was there. Everybody started teasing, saying, "yum, yum!   This is so tasty! Let's get more!  The boy asked for some too. They all said,  "Sorry!  Too bad! It's all gone."  He was very angry and a little sad too.  He started to cry.  When he got home, he told his mom and dad what     happened. They told him about being selfish.  From that day on he was never selfish again. The moral is:  It is better to give than to recieve.

                                                        MY COMRADE
My best comrade is Man Fitzgerald.  He is my envisioned comrade.  He’s  funny, and always there for me to keep me out of trouble.  He is with me every step of the way.  Man goes to sleep with me at nights.  He snores louder than a growling bear.  He also cheers me up when I’m sad.  But Man isn’t my only friend.  I also have a genuine authentic friend, and his             name is Charlie.  Charlie is smart, kind and funny.  If I were to describe Charlie.  I would say that he thinks too much of himself.  But Charlie is a good person.  Most important, he is a good friend.

                                                       THE SKATING  DOG
Early one morning, John woke up.  He brushed his teeth and wash his face.  He ate a waffle for breakfast.  After that he cleaned up his room.  He asked his Mom could he go to the skate board place.  She asked him did he clean up his room.  He told her that he did.  So she told that he could go.  He went to the garage and fetched his skate board.  He hurried to the skate             board place.  On the way he was doing all kind of tricks on the skate board.  Suddenly he saw a dog skating on a skate board and other dogs were running after him.  John just froze and stared.

                                                     MY WORST DAY

The worst day of my life was when I had back luck.  Nothing seemed to go right for me.  I went to the soda machine and bought a soda.  The soda spilled all over me when I opened it.  I played my favorite video game and I always won.  I lost every game. I went out to eat, but I left my wallet at home.  I went back home for my wallet, but by the time I arrived at the eating place, it was closed.  I went back home and fix me something to eat.  Before I could take a bite, the food fell off the plate on to the floor.  I was happy when the next day came.

                                                         THE PIANO MYSTERY
One Tuesday afternoon at school, my class and I went to music lessons.  Our teacher, Mrs. Simms wanted to teach us how to play the  piano. We all sat down in our chairs while she began to play the piano.  As she began to put her fingers on the piano keys to play a gracefully and romantic musical,  Mrs. Simms didn't notice that no sound was coming from the Grand piano.  "Mrs. Simms, Mrs. Simms,"  shouted the class.  "What?"  She answered as she continued to tap on the piano keys.  I walked up to the piano and tapped some of the keys.  "Mrs. Simms! Listen!  There is no sound!"  I responded.  "Go back to your seat young lady, I'm not hard of hearing!"  she shouted.  Mrs. Simms dragged her fingers across the keys again.  Nothing happened.  Mrs. Simms was frustrated and so was the class. She got up from the piano stool and opened up the top of the piano to see what in the world was wrong.  As soon as she opened up the top of the piano, a little Kindergarten kid named Diamond jumped out  and said,  "Boo!"   The class started laughing but Mrs. Simms was furious.  Diamond was trying to play a trick on Mrs. Simms,  but Mrs. Simms was so angry that she sent the little girl straight to our magnet coordinator.  The class was hilarious, but Mrs. Simms was not in playing move!  She told us to be quiet or else.  Mrs. Simms had a very bad day.

                                                              BEDTIME SNACK
I had just finished eating dinner.  My mom told me that I had to brush my teeth and go to bed so I could get up early for school the next morning. I hopped in bed after brushing my teeth.  In seconds my eyes     were closed.  As I began to twist and turn, a grin came on my face.  I was in a snack land.  There were all kinds of  sweets that I could name.  There were brownies as brown as cinnamon.  Marsh melons looked like big fluffy white clouds floating in space.  I could smell all of the delicious snacks.  I tasted a large slurp of ice cream with M&M'S.  This snack land was awesome!  Suddenly, ding, ding, ding!  My alarm clock went off.  When I woke up out of that fantastic dream, I had slob all over my mouth.  My     mom came in my room and asked what happen to your mouth.  I told her that it was a long story.

                                                                 "MESSAGE"
One Saturday morning I woke up happily because I knew today  was my birthday.  So I dressed up, brushed my teeth and washed my face. Suddenly I heard my mom calling me.  I ran downstairs to see what she     wanted.  I thought maybe she was going to tell me, "happy birthday."  I was excited!  But she didn't.  Instead, she told me "good-bye."  She had to go to the store.  I told her, "but mom, today is my birthday."  By that time she was gone.  I went out on the porch with my little stereo player feeling very sad that nobody remembered my birthday.  I turned my stereo radio to 101.1 FM.  I like the music they play.  Suddenly I saw a small black nice dog with a big bone in his mouth.  He came up to me and wagged his little tail  with a smile on his face.  I looked at him very surprised.  "Plush!"  He dropped the bone at my feet and ran off.  I said, "yuck."  But as I was about to go in the house, the bone had a small message on it.  It read,   "meet me at 4690 Rue Street."   I said to myself.  "Who could this person be?"  Rue Street was right up the way from my house.  So I went walking up the street to Rue Street.  I saw that same small black nice dog again standing in front of 4690 Rue Street.  He ran up to me and started  pushing me toward the porch of the house.  I knocked on the door and the     door opened.  There were no lights on in the house.  Suddenly, the lights popped on and everybody came out  and yelled,  "surprise, surprise!  It was all my family and friends that gave me a surprise birthday party.  It was the day that the mysterious small black nice dog dropped a special message at my fight.  And what a message it was!                                                                                 ANAYELE CASTRO

                                                       A BEE'S BEST FRIEND
Once there was a bee named Josh.  Josh always wanted to write a story about life in a bee-hive.  But he didn't know how to write.  Any way he didn't even have a pen.  One day Josh found a yellow pencil on the  ground as he buzzed along the way.  "This is my lucky day,"  smiled Josh.  "Put me down!"  yelled the pencil.  "But I don't want to,"  replied Josh.  "Well if you don't put me down, I will never write for you,"  said the     pencil.  "What is your name?  asked Josh.  "If I tell you, will you put me     down?"  asked the pencil. "No problem,"  answered Josh.  "My name is  Billy Lead," said the pencil.  "Now put me down!"   "Okay!  Okay!  But  first I want to make a deal,"  explained Josh.  "What kind of deal?"  asked     Billy Lead.  If I put you down, will you write for me?"  asked Josh.  "Sure,  said Billy Lead slyly."  "Now put me down!"  Josh put Billy Lead down on  the ground and buzzed around him. Then Billy told Josh when he counted     to three, pick him back up.  Billy Lead counted to three and Josh picked him back up.  "Let's get started,"  suggested Billy Lead.  They started writing Josh's story.  Josh was so excited and told Billy Lead that he was his best friend.  Billy Lead didn't say anything but just continued to write.  The next day, Billy was still in the bee hive.  Josh was holding Billy very  tight.  Billy tried to get away but josh was just holding him too tight.  Finally, Josh fell asleep from all the writing and Billy rolled out the bee-hive onto the ground and he never saw Josh again.

                                                          THE AMAZING GOD
A little girl named Brittany and her mother woke up one morning. Brittany went to the kitchen to find something to eat.   She was very hungry.  She cracked opened the cabinet  prayed that there would be food that she liked. She finally opened it all the way.  There wasn’t any food at all.  She was disappointed and hungry.  As she stared out the window, she saw something strange happening.  She saw all kind of foods falling from the sky like rain.  She saw doughnuts, Pasta, Church’s Chicken, Pizza, pancakes, milk and juicy hamburgers.  She called her mom.  They both ran out the house with buckets to catch the falling food.  Brittany looked up at the sky and said,  “thank you lord.”

                                                       A SWEET DREAM
Have you ever woke up from your sleep and realized you were in a room full of candy.  Well, in this story you are not going to believe what your ears are going to hear.  I was done with my homework and I went fast asleep.  Suddenly I was in a pool full of hot chocolate.  I started sipping the hot chocolate.  After that I looked around and there was a huge bowl of  ice cream with chocolate syrup on top and juicy cherries in the middle.  I didn’t need a spoon.  I just slid right into that large bowl and ice cream just melted in my mouth.  It was so delicious that my tasty charms busted wide open.  After that I couldn’t stop eating ice cream and all the other sweets I saw.  Then I woke up and discovered that it was all just a sweet dream full of munches and desserts.  But what a dream!

                                                    THE DESK AND ERASER
One Monday morning there was a eraser and a desk who did not get alone with each other.  The eraser was always putting marks on the desk face.  Both of them would love to have a peaceful day.  When the kids came into the classroom, the problem started.  The teacher were not there that morning.  The kids had a Substitute teacher.  The kids were very happy because they were splashing paint, marking and erasing on the desks.  The Substitute teacher could not control them.  She tried to calm them down but she couldn’t.  Boom!  A boy threw a desk across the room and made a big hole in the wall.  Finally the children went to lunch.  The eraser and desk were so happy to be alone.  They became friends and they never got mad at each other again.  They were so glad when Saturday and Sunday came because they would have a rest from the naughty children.

                                                          I  Love To Draw
I love to paint and draw.  I feel that I can express myself.  If I'm full of  energies, I can draw a beautiful ruby ring or I can draw myself as a famous person.  If I'm happy, I can draw a beautiful flower.  When I draw,  some times I pretend that it is alive.  The more I draw, I can feel that     everything is made from some kind of emotions.  Once I start I have to finish.  Everyday I try to draw something new.  One day I might draw ducks, the next day I might draw puppies. If it doesn't come out good, I can do it again.  I love to give someone my art to make them happy.  When I grow up,  I hope to be an artist.  I love it so much that I could just draw  all day.  I even sign some of my work.  If I come home and is very tired, I usually go to my room and draw, draw and draw!

Have You Ever Had A Nightmare?
Have you ever had a nightmare and thought it was real?  I have and it was nothing nice and  you will never believe what I'm going to tell you.  One morning I woke up and everything was bigger than me.  My bed and slippers were as big as one of those cartoon dragons.  I looked         down to the floor, but it was a long ways down.  I couldn't get out the bed.  So I slid down my bed pole.  I walked to the long mirror on my wall.   AHHHHHHH!  I screamed.  I walked over to my mini drawer and got out my mini tape measure.  I measured myself and I was only six inches tall.  My cat came in the room and she looked like an over grown tiger.  I woke up in a sweat.  I don't ever want to experience a nightmare again!

                                                      THE CHOCOLATE KID
There was a world with only 26 states.  Only one state was a candy state     and there was a kid who loved to eat chocolate candy.  He was the only person who loved to eat chocolate.  But there was a reason.  He was born in his mother stomach eating chocolate.  You probably don't beleive it, but     it is true.  His father ate chocolate, but just a little.  Anyway, when he first came out and started to grow as a boy, he went around town saying,  "I'm  a candy kid whose name is Dandy!"  I'm a candy kid whose name is Dandy!   He just laughed and took big bites off his chocolate candy.  He was a chocolate addict.  He even ate chocolate candy for breakfast, lunch and     dinner.  He just couldn't get enough of chocolate and he never in his right mind went to the toilet.  All that chocolate!  Amazing!  Everytime he ran out of chocolate, he just bought another pack. Until one day he had to go  to the dentist.  He started crying because he knew his teeth was bad from eating all that chocolate.  He was still crying as the dentist put him to sleep.  The dentist had to pull four of his teeth.  When he woke up, the dentist smiled and gave him another piece of chocolate.......The mother scolded the dentist.  I asked the question.  Why did the dentist do that?   Maybe he was a chocolate addict too!

                                                 FABULOUS  IS MY FASHION

On Friday, I wore blue jeans and a different color shirt.  It was a good match and the colors were pretty.  Every time I wore that combination, I felt special.  On Saturdays I go shopping at the mall.  It is so much fun to see so many beautiful clothes. One time I bought a red and blue shirt and matched it with a white skirt.  Then I trotted over to Foot Locker and picked out my favorite fabulous shoes to match.  On Monday I  got dressed and  looked three times in the mirror and I was off to school  wearing my fabulous fashion with a different hairstyle.  Without my hair     done, I would look like a clown on a tricycle riding around the park.  When my hair and fashions are together, I look like a singer on the stage singing.  I learned a lot about fashions.  Fashion is all about looking good.....And I do like to look good!

                                                 MY THREE YEAR OLD SISTER
One sunny morning,  I came downstairs to eat breakfast.  My mother and father were sitting at the table drinking coffee.  They both were talking to Amy, my three year old sister.  My parents thought she was a little angel.  But when they were gone, she always did really bad things.      Finally, they told me that I was going to have to baby-sit.  I told them that I had plans.  I was supposed to go to the beach with Jessica.  She explained  to me that they had to go to court.  So, no beach for me.  They finally went upstairs and got dressed to go.  They said good-bye, started the car and  drove off slowly with my little sister smiling, and waving her hands, good-    bye.  After that the disaster had begun already.  The first thing she did was got a handful of blueberries.  I told her whatever she does, don't throw  them at me.  Do you know what she did?  She laughed and threw them directly at me.  I was so mad I chased her upstairs and went into my room.  She asked me if she could play with my phone.  I said, "no!"  She started  crying.  But do you think I cared.   (No way Hope.)  Finally the mail was here.  I went to get it.  I left the door opened just in case.   Suddenly!  Bam!  My little terrible sister shut the door and locked it.  I did  everything I could to get back in the house.  She wouldn't let me in.  Finally I tried a little bribery.  I told her that I would give her a candy bar  before dinner. She slowly unlocked the door with a big smile on her face.  I  tricked her.  When I got inside I almost lost my cool..........
