Shana opened the door to
her bedroom one evening after school. She was all
alone. When she opened the door, she could not believe
what she saw. She tried to squeeze
through what room she had, but it wasn't enough......

R.B. was taking a swim on Galveston beach. He was a good swimmer.
His mother told him not to go too far in the water. Everybody
else just stood along the beach and watched R.B. They started
talking about all the things R.B. were afraid of, but yet he had no
fear of the water. But it was one thing he feared the most.

It was a beautiful morning. Lashae was ready
for a big day. Her hair had to be perfect. Her new blue dress was
waiting in the closet to be worn. Lashae pretty shoes were
sitting in her special shoe corner. She was pumped up! She
hurried out of bed and ran to the bathroom singing a song.

I had just finished eating breakfast. While everyone was at
the table, I brought up the subject about having a pet. My dad
thought it would be too much trouble to take care of. I turned
away as tears ran down my cheeks. No one was listening to me. I
guess I'm just a little kid. Who cares?! I
stood at the front door as I wiped my eyes.

Everyone was hungry. We had played in the hot sun all day.
My cousins had an appetite like a lion. My dad told everyone to
jump in the van. He was treating all of us to a meal.
Everybody ran to the van at the same time. My fat cousin
almost got stuck in the door. We didn't know where my dad was
taking us, but I did know he wasn't taking us to any fast food
place.

My mom told me to go outside and get the mail. She was
expecting a letter from her sister in California. I opened
the mail box and took the mail out. I noticed a
letter with my name on it. "Who is this?" I mumbled to
myself. I just stared at the letter. It
had no return address. "This is strange," I
thought.

Ice was kind of bored. Summertime was here and all his friends
were away on vacation. Something came to him
while he was sitting on the porch. It was a different kind of
beat that he hadn't heard before. He ran in the house to find a
pen and paper. He dashed back out to the porch and started
jotting words down on paper.
"Yeah! I feel the same way you do, Latoya! I think better when my belly is full!"
